I use everyday experiences, simple moments or interactions. Photographing what I see with no great need to capture ‘the’ moment. I also use old photo’s from family archives. They harbor emotions, lost motivations faded thoughts, the things that make us human. I like things that connect us, similarities in our lived experiences. The photos are really a starting point for a painting and at a certain point the photo drifts away and the painting takes over. I like the sense that there is a story there, rather than directly telling a story.
Background
After completing my foundation diploma at Central Saint Martins I went on to study at Kingston University, graduating with my BA (Hons) degree in 2000. I then spent several years working as a concept artist and illustrator. My career took a different tangent leading into the translation industry, where, for a decade, I started and ran my own agency. Through these years, however, the desire to follow a creative path stayed with me.
